So at some point next week I will be paying a visit to Spike's language arts class. He doesn't know it yet, heh. Actually, "heh" doesn't describe my feelings about this. "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA" does a better job.

His teacher wants to meet with the two of us, to try to figure out how the otherwise straight-A student can manage to fail English simply by not turning in vocabulary definitions. It sounds as if her head is closer to exploding over this than mine is. At any rate, I asked if I could sit in on an entire class.

His behavior isn't in question, he's behaves quite nicely. That's not the point. Showing up unexpectedly, in front of all his friends, proving that I am not letting this slide and AM taking an interest, THAT is the point.

I can't wait, heh.

So Spike got a little poker set for Christmas, a couple decks of cards and some poker chips in a nice neat little metal case.

This morning I saw him slide the case into his backpack.

"You're not going to gamble at school, are you?" I asked.

"No Mom."

"Okay, because you know you'll get suspended if you get caught..."

"I'm not going to gamble Mom."

I drove him to school.

"Mom, do you have, like, 50 cents I could have?"

"Yeah, sure, here it is... I thought you packed your lunch?"

"I did, I packed a sandwich, chips, an orange, and a juice."

"Sooooo... what do you need 50 cents for?"

"For.... Um... For... just in case?"

"SPIKE YOU BETTER NOT GAMBLE AT SCHOOL!"

"Oh, NO Mom, I'm NOT gambling, Really!"

In spite of all this, my boy just cracks me up. He is so funny and lovable and adorable. And he loves me and I love him, heh. I know I need to be firm with him, and I AM - I choose not to type out all my lectures, hehe - but honestly, I just love that kid.

Just wanted to share the love with ya'll.
