I'm watching "Rushmore" at the moment, and I should probably be paying more attention to it because it just isn't doing anything for me right now.

However, whatever was wrong with me before is now better. I seriously think there was something wrong with me, I mean I was depressed and had my reasons, but I also knew that I was unreasonably depressed for that moment. So anyway, all over now, I feel better, most problems have been solved, blah blah blah.

I would like to say thank you to a few of you who reached out despite my protests, you know who you are, and you know it means a lot to me.

So anyway, Friday we got to go to lunch, the Accounting Department did, and then they told us that we were getting our bonuses afterall. $200. SUCH a relief. So after work I went to the store and bought candy and puzzles and playing cards and bubbles for the kids' baskets. And I even refilled their Starbucks cards with $10 each. So that part of my worry (and again, my kids would have been okay without baskets but my mind just freaked out on me last week) was over.

Saturday the kids decided they wanted to go to the beach, and the weather report said it would be 76F and Sunny. So we left at 8am, arrived in very foggy Aptos at 9am, and went to the coffee shop for a bagel. Walked to Rite Aid and got a bucket for sand and water. Drove to Play It Again Sports and bought Spike a skim board.

At 10:30am it was still really really foggy. But you know, sometimes the fog sticks around for awhile at the beach. So we drove to deserted Capitola beach (right next to Aptos) and set up camp. It was freaking cold there. The kids hunted for shells, actually played in the water (it was about 50F, the water couldn't have been over 40F) and I sat on the blankets trying to read. Eventually the kids even played with their boogie boards and skim boards. We had so much fun even though we were freezing.

You can see the pictures from Beach Day right here. As you can see, it didn't get any warmer, and the sun never came out. At 1pm we packed up. We looked around in all the beach shops, then went to the Aptos Burger Company for huge burgers and fries. We called Scott who was on his way home from work, and he said to meet him at home. When he got to Aptos we decided to go to the movies and saw "The Whole 10 Yards". It was funny enough, and a good movie for the four of us.

We drove home and went to the grocery store, picked up some eggs and a bit of food, and went to bed.

Sunday we got up and were too exhausted to go to church. The kids were overjoyed to see their baskets, and after 45 minutes of quiet I went to check on Spike. He was laying face down on the living room carpet, wrapped in his blanket with his basket right next to his head. His arm reached up, grabbed a candy, and stuck it in his mouth. He'd been lying there for 45 minutes eating candy!!! I was glad the Easter Bunny had brought tooth brushes too.

The rest of the day involved the kid going to dad's house, then all of us going to my mom's for lasagna and garlic bread, then finally home. Spike went to a friend's to spend the night, and Buffy and I went to the laundromat.

Have I talked about Drunk-Guy before? We met him our first day at the laundromat, he was just standing there watching the TV, told us not to worry about him because he was "just hanging out drinking". But that he's "a harmless drunk". Then we noticed he was there *every* Sunday afternoon. Then we noticed that even when we went on Monday or Wednesday nights, he was still there. Just hanging out, watching TV. He always says Hi and sometimes talks to me but Buffy just looks mortified every time he speaks to us. It's really hilarious.

So anyway, Easter evening we arrive at the laundromat and it's empty except for... yeah, Drunk Guy. He was watching some musical movie about Jesus, and was talking along to the characters. "Oh Judas, Judas, Judas!" he wailed, and shook his head. Buffy was cracking up. Finally he saw us and said Hi, then asked if we celebrated Easter. I said Yeah, but ya know, we still need clean clothes. He went on to say that he is at the laundromat "every single day of the year, and only on Easter is it empty." Buffy looked at me with that mortified look that you're just going to have to see one day and hissed at me, "MOM. He's here EVERY DAY of the YEAR." Well Duh, Buffy, I figured that one out a couple months ago. But she just looked so funny. "Stay in school, Kid," I whispered to her.

Well Easter finally wound down, and we went to bed. The kids are on vacation this week but I'm still at work. The important thing is that whatever little chemical or hormone imbalance I had is now back to normal. I get paid Wednesday and I can pay all my bills, and Scott, and I already wrote out a check to my mom.

The Ex has been quiet for a week, and that probably means one of two things. A) The lawyer told him to pull his head out of his ass and go home, or B) Well, I really can't imagine this is going to go to court. If it does, I'm not afraid, in fact I welcome it. Which is why I think he probably got sent home, if he went at all.

The kids start swim practice next week. My half is $95 which I can pay over 3 months. The Ex won't have a choice about his half, he's the one with the Swim Club Membership now. But the good news is I think I even have enough money for the deposit on church camp. After that, I'll make whatever payments I can and they'll get scholarships for the rest. I've already decided that when the kids grow up and move out I will donate my own scholarship to a child who can't afford it.

That's the way the world works, right? Easter Buff 2004.JPG
